Electronic Brake Controller:

What is an Electric Brake Controller?

This is a device that is connected inside the vehicle. The device communicates to the trailer the necessary amount to apply to the trailer brakes when the vehicle’s brakes are applied. You can check your vehicle’s owner’s manual to determine if your vehicle is equipped with an Electronic Brake Controller.

Is an Electronic Brake Controller required?

Yes. Tennessee state law (code 55-9-204) states that any trailer with a gross weight of 3,000 lbs or more must be equipped with brakes and those brakes must be able to be applied by the driver of the tow vehicle from the cab.

What if I don’t have an Electronic Brake Controller?

You can rent one from us for an additional fee. This is a Bluetooth connected device that plugs into your vehicles 7-way socket at the rear of your vehicle. You just need to install the app on your smartphone. Please see below.

Fees, Policies and Requirements:

Is there an age requirement for renting?

Yes. You must be 21 years old to rent our trailers and 25 years old to rent our vehicles.

Is security deposit mandatory?

Yes. The security deposit is held during the time of your rental and is released after check-in if no issues/damage are found.

Is insurance required for rentals?

Yes. We require you to have full coverage insurance.

Do you charge a cleaning fee?

It is important to return your rental in the same condition as upon pick up. If rental is not returned in the same condition, extra fees may apply. In addition to the terms and conditions, if cleaning of the rental is required upon return inspection, there will be a cleaning fee charged to the card on file. The minimum cleaning fee is $50 and is subject to change depending on the condition of the returned rental. Smoking is strictly prohibited in all rental vehicles. A cleaning fee of $400 will be charged if evidence of smoking is found.

Towing:

What are some useful tips for towing?

-Use a spotter to help when backing a trailer.

-Trailers should never be towed at more than 65 MPH.

-Make sure to raise the jack completely to avoid damage.

-Make wider turns at corners and/or curves to accommodate the trailer you are towing.

-Check the trailer tire pressure.

-During stops, always check the coupler to ensure it is still seated on the hitch ball and in the latched position with the latch pin present. Check the trailer connector to ensure it is completely inserted in the 7-way socket. Ensure safety chains are attached to the vehicle correctly.

Is there restrictions to what I can haul?

Yes. Hauling hazardous materials is not permitted. Feel free to contact us if you have questions regarding specific items.

Are trailers equipped with tie down points?

Yes. Our trailers are equipped with proper tie-down points to accommodate your hauling needs.

Is special equipment needed for towing?

Due to the size of some trailers, a Weight Distribution/Anti-Sway hitch is required to be used for towing. If you are renting a trailer that requires this type of hitch, it is included with the rental. Tennessee State law requires an operational Electronic Brake Controller to be installed on the tow vehicle if the trailer’s gross weight is 3,000 lbs or more. We rent a Bluetooth-connected Electronic Brake Controller that plugs into your vehicle’s 7-way socket at the rear of your vehicle if your vehicle isn’t equipped with an Electronic Brake Controller. You simply download an app on your smartphone and we will help you set it up.
